A family recipe (passed down 4 generations)!

The humble sugar cookie brings so much joy.

It’s a Christmas staple in our house.

We actually use a recipe that’s been passed down along 4 generations. And now I’m going to share it with you. 😃

Our family’s favourite cookie has a secret.

It’s all in how the ingredients are mixed together.

Sugar Cookies

In a separate bowl mix:

  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

I use an immersion blender for this step but a hand mixer would work.

In a another bowl mix:

  • 1 cup softened butter - use real butter
  • 1 cup shortening like Crisco
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Blend these ingredients with a pastry cutter.

Using a stand mixer - Mix the dry ingredients and the wet ingredients together.

Chill dough for at least an hour.

Roll out dough on floured surface and and cut into shapes. Sprinkle lightly with sugar.

Bake at 375 degrees 8-10 minutes
